Life on the Farm - Freshman Part 1

Updated: Aug 25, 2020

Starting my freshman year at Stanford and joining the Varsity Sailing Team has been an amazing experience. I arrived for preseason 2 weeks before all of the other new freshman which gave me time to bond with the sailing team both at practice, team meetings and on a campout/white-water-rafting trip.  I also got a physical, met with an academic adviser, and moved from temporary to permanent housing where I met my freshman roommate (Stanford is one of the few colleges that still have blind roommate assignments…you meet each other the day you move in).  I have a big window so my dorm room has lots of natural light and most every day is nice on "The Farm” so I bike, run, play beach volleyball with friends, read outdoors and in general take advantage of the great weather.  I got a taste of east coast schools when I traveled  7 hours back and forth twice a month; and though the fall foliage is beautiful from above, I love flying back West and seeing the expanse of the Pacific Ocean (if not foggy), the Golden Gate Bridge, and city on the bay.  Academics are tough at Stanford and I study a lot but still make time for going to football games with my friends and cheering from "The Red Zone.” In January, my friends and I spent one weekend at Half Moon Bay and the next skiing in Lake Tahoe.  I’m so grateful to be seeing and experiencing the world of Stanford for these next four years. And if you still don’t believe the hype, here is a collection of videos that show just how perfect this place is:
